Start by using the X Carve CNC from inventables to carve out the Superman logo in the wood to a depth of about 3mm.

Using a blowtorch melt the solder over the wood so it fills the cut, the wood with solder inlay is then taken to the belt sander where its sanded until the solder is flush with the wood, if there are any holes or gaps you can use a soldering iron to fill them.

To finish the piece use the blow torch to burn the wood for a really great looking effect.

Making an Inlay Jewelry Box Part 1

With the Christmas Box Build off contest up and running, I thought I would give you folks a little inspiration on making an Inlay Jewelry Box. This box features router inlay as well as some simple inlay banding. “Thanks to Bob Simmons for the inspiration on that”. It also features some Vertex Satin Nickel solid extruded hardware from Rockler Woodworking and Supply. This is part one we begin on getting the box carcass built and the router inlay work started.
